Parlour Recording Studios
Name: Jon Sampson
Date: Fri 16th December 2016
Review:
We (Untamed) recently finished recording our third album at Parlour (our previous two were recorded at different facilities) having first looked around to see what other studios were offering – the name Parlour just kept coming back. I had heard the name a couple of years ago and had made a mental note to check them out when we were ready to record, and I have to say – we were really impressed by the studios facilities. From the full complement of back-line, Drum kit (if needed) Midi-keyboard, Pro-tools and 3, yes - 3 different sets of near-field monitors to check all aspects of the mix - to the resident Engineers (Neil) experience/knowledge/abilities!
From day one, it was clear that we had made the right choice of studio for our 3rd album – Neil was confident, a pleasure to work with, and when we heard the drum kit.... Wow...
We had a very tight schedule to work to – 10 songs in 10 days... But this didn’t seem to stress anybody out, and with Neil’s excellent editing skills – we completed with a couple of hours to spare!
What we ended up with, is the cleanest, tightest, sonically pleasing recording that I have ever been involved with – Very happy indeed!
The studio rates are highly competitive, and I can genuinely say that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Parlour to anyone!

I went to the Parlour for both a one to one tuition with Neil Haynes, but did also record a song as part of the process.
From the research I had done before I chose to go to The Parlour, I had an impression of a serious business with a competent crew. This is surely well confirmed after my 3 days there. Really impressive studio with the best gear and a great sounding recording room.
A big thanks to Neil that kindly kept up with all my questions and generously shared of his knowledge. I have gained alot from my visit to the Parlour, and would recommend it for most kind of recording sessions, but also if you're looking for someone that can be your guide into the professional world of recording studio techniques. My one to one workshop was so worth the money!

Review:
The experience i had recording the new Foul Body Autopsy EP at The Parlour was excellent. Neil is a focussed & professional engineer/producer who can get the very best out of you. I have worked with a few engineers in different studios over the years and i can say this was the best experience i have had so far.
Also being a student studying sound engineering it was very insightful to watch Neil work. I plan on working with him on the next record in a few years time

Formicarius Recommend Parlour Studios!

Review:
We were recommended to record at Parlour based on an impeccable reputation - Neil both lived up to and surpassed our already high expectations. Always a focussed and efficient professional, Neil is not only a pleasure to work with but simply delivers results, getting the best out of the artists he records and the music he produces. Parlour's onsite accommodation is the perfect combination of humble and comfortable, generating the right atmosphere for working hard whilst being able to take some time to yourself. I stayed there for 10 days and maximised not only my potential, but also was able to get the best possible record at the end of those 2 weeks. Combined with state of the art equipment and a fantastic, flexible and expert producer, I couldn't be happier with Neil and Parlour Studios, nor give them a higher more glowing recommendation. If you're on the fence, get off it and go make a record here! It'll be the best decision you make.

Review:
My band recorded our demo tracks at The Parlour with Neil a few weeks ago. Basically, these tracks came out better than we ever hoped them to be. We have previously recorded in other studios and the attention to detail as well as the positivity shown by Neil could never be faulted. I could go on to explain the amazing gear he has or the outstanding accomodation etc but I think it's more important to know the engineer knows what they are doing - and Neil most definitely does. Other than the incredible recordings we got out of it he was always there advising when the band had an issue and he knew how to get the best out of each player in order to use our time wisely. We fully enjoyed our time at The Parlour and look forward to going back there soon. I cannot reccomend Neil and The Parlour enough!

My originals Rock band recorded with Neil Dec 2014 at Parlour. The recording process was smooth and professional and Neil was very accomodating with our Band requirements and took time to ensure what we wanted was there with the final mixing and mastering process. A stress-free relaxed studio environment. Happy to recommend Neil's studio and recommend him as a Producer.

This was our 4th visit to Parlour. From the start Neil was fantastic and knew the best way for us to record to A) get the sound we wanted and B) to maximise the time we had over the 2 days we were in the studio.
He was there working on on tracks before we arrived on the second day and always put 100% into our recording.
You don't just get an engineer but he'll produce your tracks and work you hard so you get the best sound recorded as possible.
Will always return to Parlour!

Neil used the time we had booked well, with no unnecessary stoppages, Neil worked hard for his money, but he will work you hard as well. So if you are serious about making music, then Neil is your man, the fully mastered track Neil presented to us after two days was exactly what we wanted.

Great Studio

Review:
Speedvark had a great day's recording at Parlour Studio. Neil was really quick to understand what it was that we were looking for in terms of drum sounds and he kept the session moving along with practical and necessary advice. The atmosphere was really positive and the resulting sound was very much what we were looking for. Neil is a very professional and reliable engineer and provides a steady, encourgaing and unobtrusive influence on the session. Many thanks for making this such an enjoyable enxperience.

Excellent Results

Review:
I am a full-time solo musician who sings and plays acoustic guitar. I have recorded in many studios over the last 25 years. However I had never walked away from any previous recording session, with a feeling that I'd completely got the result I was after. That changed in August 2014 when I met Neil at Parlour Studios. If I had to try and say why Neil got the result I wanted, I guess I would say it was a combination of his 'Excellent' equipment, knowledge and his ability to creatively motivate. I really feel that during the time I spent at Parlour, Neil shared my aspirations and achieved something remarkable in such a short space of time. Many Thanks ...

We booked in for 8 days with Neil Haynes and we couldn't be happier. Neil is a true professional and aided us in getting exactly the sound we wanted. The studio itself is smart, clean and provides everything you could need. In such a short space of time we managed to record a full album; mixed and mastered to a professional level. Neil's ear for detail and approachable manner made the whole experience an absolute pleasure. No nonsense, which is exactly what we needed. We can't recommend him enough and will definitely be back in the new year to record again. Top bloke! Dave (XII Boar)

Awesome Studio

Review:
Just to set theme of this review:
We’re 5 piece Metal band, including a synth player. For an engineer this is usually a pain in the a*$! to mix because the synth needs to be present in the mix without losing anything else. This was tackled with ease at Parlour Studios!
As individuals in the band, a few of us have a fair amount of experience in the studio but this is our first time professionally recording as a whole band. With all that said we couldn’t have asked for more out of our time at the studio, we wanted to live there by the end of it.
We recorded a four track EP with Neil over the span of 8 days. This was just about enough time if you are all focused and can quickly adapt song parts if it doesn’t quite work out the way you want. As the drummer of the band, I chose to bring my own kit. As soon as we arrived we got to work setting up and tuning the kit (No time to hang around!). If you’re not the greatest at tuning your own drums, Neil will get it pretty spot on (as long as you have new skins!), my kit ended up sounding awesome in a matter of minutes. After the mics were on and up we decided to use a different snare as mine wouldn’t cut through the mix as well as a very nice Ludwig snare the studio had. There is a selection of decent snares at the studio, so don’t be surprised if you end up using one of them.
The drums were laid down fairly quickly; everything was relaxed whilst recording which helps so much. If you’re struggling Neil will help and suggest different things, we all learnt a lot from his suggestions.
Rhythm guitar was laid down next. Trust me on this; you won’t need to bring your own amp! There is plenty of choice at Parlour Studios for any genre. We used two different guitars on the same amp head. Sounded nice and chunky, exactly what you want for metal. After this, Bass was laid down and then lead guitar and synth. Through all of these stages of the EP Neil would offer guidance on, not only the sound, but the composition of the tracks if he thought it didn’t sound quite right. This was great because we hadn’t had the opportunity to bounce ideas around with anyone other than ourselves. Neil gave us the chance to think about tracks in a different way and therefore build on them.
The vocals were the last piece of the puzzle. None of us had really done vocals in a studio before so we didn’t really know how to attack it. However Neil just gave us the mentality of doing it to your absolute best and then doing it over and over again, making each successful take stronger. Because of the accommodation at the studio there was plenty of time to work on vocals and different phrasing which was very helpful.
By the end of our time at the studio we were all more than happy with the results of the time and effort that had gone into the tracks. We were and still are saying that “We got more out of our time at the studio than we thought”. This is because Parlour Studios is one of the few places that you can completely get away from everyday life, relax and write/record a professional sounding Album/EP/Single, all for a reasonable price.
We would like to thank Neil at Parlour Studios for all the time spent on the tracks and for the time he spent putting up with us! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Parlour Studios and we’ll definitely be back for our Album.
Cheers from Devil Inside! - Listen to the tracks on iTunes from May 10th 2014

The recording of my solo album at The Parlour with Neil Haynes was a great experience. He is very professional and gave me a lot of useful advice on vocal as well as the actual song arrangements. Neil pays a lot of attention to detail and knows his gear in and out.He mixed and mastered my album and the result is absolutely brilliant. I am looking forward to work with Neil again on my next album. So if you're trying to find a reasonably priced studio with great equipment and acoustics, then don't look any further. The Parlour is definitely by far the best choice.

We recorded our album Dark Matter at The Parlour with Neil Haynes and we will definitely be making a return to the studio for our next album. Parlour Studios boasts a wealth of equipment and more importantly the engineers know how to use it! Neil was fantastic for us and we couldn't fault his work on our album. He was patient and calm but also gave us a kick up the ass when needed! Neil even helped us to re structure parts of our songs. If you're looking for a top quality sound at an affordable price we highly reccomend Parlour Studios.

You need this studio in your (musical) life. Russ and Neil are both legends, the studio itself is clean, tidy and full of great gear and most importantly, the production these guys can add to your music is Epic - not just in the mix itself, but also in the way they help to craft and polish a song you already thought you'd finished but somehow it comes out even better.
So pleased to have had the chance to record with these guys, and we very much hope to visit them again.

I have been looking for a good engineer to mix my home recorded material for quite some time now. Neil Haynes turned out to be an excellent choice and has been a pleasure to work with. Despite limitations due to my geographic location (I live in the states), Neil was able to handle everything through the internet and turn out a superb mix at a fair price. I look forward to working with Neil again.

Great Stuff
Name: Al Williams - In Pixels

Review:
Me and my band In Pixels went to record a 4 track E.P at Parlour Studios in Kettering. We spent 5 days recording all the music which included quite a few complex strumming patterns, timing changes, changes in tempo, double tracking many elements and layering up different levels of vocals. Neil Haynes was absolutely great throughout, always patient, very accommodating of any ideas that we had, happy to put his own ideas down on the table, and would always work to a very high standard. As an artist you get lost in your own thoughts some times and at one point Neil suggested for me to rethink an element of a verse overnight. At first I was hesitant but made the change, and listening back now it sounds so much better, it was great to have someone willing to give that level of input if it doesn’t sound quite right. We then left Neil with our tracks at the end of 5 days and he spent another 2 days mixing and adding elements of production, partially from ideas that we put forth and elements off his own back. The finished E.P sounds absolutely great, we can’t believe how good it sounds, we’re blown away! Far more professional sound than any of the studios that we have used in the past. I can thoroughly recommend using Parlour Studios and Neil Haynes, I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed!

Not only does Parlour provide the equipment and tools needed to produce the highest quality of recordings you also get the experience and knowledge of Neil Haynes, he will help push you and your music to be the best level that it could possibly be.
I would seriously urge any band regardless of genre to go to Parlour they really are the best studio we've ever been to.

I can't recommend Parlour highly enough. Neil Haynes was fantastic to work with and he has a highly developed skill-set when it comes to all things audio. He was friendly, attentive, motivated and (perhaps most importantly) he was driven to get the best possible results with an admirable attention to detail. We were very impressed with our end product. The studio itself is great and its atmosphere is conducive to making great music (the live room also sounds awesome). With the benefit of free accommodation and very reasonable recording/mixing costs, I cannot see why you wouldn't want to go to Parlour. We certainly will be returning soon. Cheers Neil!
