The top mastering engineers get paid thousands for basically tweaking your mix a bit. That should go some way towards explaining what a vital job it is. I've never known anyone so tirelessly obsessed with keeping up to date with the minutiae of this quite frankly, tedious subject! Harvey reads the books so you don't have to.
