The Fold in Forest Hill is owned by resident producers Ollie Couling and Gareth Cobb and is managed by Amati Studios. Graeme Allen at Amati gave us the lowdown on The Fold and why it is their ‘most sought-after studio.’
‘The Fold is a fantastic little studio which is made up of one, good-sized, treated live room and a well-equipped control room centred around Pro Tools HD and outboard from Focusrite, TL Audio and Lexicon.
‘The studio’s best feature (aside from an impressive array of mics which includes Neumanns and a Neve-designed SE ribbon mic) is its comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Ollie and Gareth go ‘all out’ to ensure that every client has a fun and relaxed session and leaves happier than when they walked in. Not only do you get great equipment and space at The Fold, but you also have access to a huge range of session musicians like The Noisette’s drummer as well as Ollie and Gareth who are musicians themselves and always willing to session for their clients’ projects at no extra cost! Longer bookings can even include free pre-production time to ensure that everthing runs smoothly when the main session begins. For the price and mic list, no other studio in South London comes close to The Fold!’
Now in its second year of operation The Fold has played host to clients such as Speech DeBelle (2009 Mercury Music Prize winner) and Richard Ashcroft. Plans are also afoot to expand the studio over the next few years.
